Making MOOP Bags

Volunteer Workshop – Making MOOP Bags!

The Man Burns on September 1, 2018.

Will you be ready? Are you getting ready? Are you ready!
The Earth Guardians will be ready.

Last weekend a dedicated and hard-working group of Earth Guardians got together to make MOOP Bags and custom silk screen 288 hankies for playa helpers.

Aren’t they cute? Handkerchiefs can be used as a dust mask, a head cover, an armband, or nose wipe, or other personal hygiene purposes such as wiping one’s hands or face or even picking up messy MOOP.

MOOP is Matter Out of Place and in the Black Rock Desert, Burners are encouraged to help Leave No Trace and pick up while enjoying the art and culture of Burning Man.

The Principle: Leaving No Trace
“Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them.”

Earth Guardians are burners helping other Burners to Reduce Reuse, Recycle, Rethink and Restore the playa. One of the ways they help Burners do that is by making and having MOOP bags are available at Earth Guardian’s camp.

Everyone needs a bag to help pick up that plastic bottle top, packaging, baggie, zip tie, duct tape, caution tape, etc. That is all too often airborne due to wind conditions and carelessness.

The Earth Guardians next workshop is being scheduled and will likely be hosted by Shortcake in Redwood Valley, CA. A third workshop will be in Truckee on July 14th, hosted by Cathy! Bring yourself, a dish for the potluck, and learn about volunteer opportunities at Black Rock City.
Meet other EGs and help in the MOOP bag creation effort!

Get ready to pick up MOOP and get ready for the Burn, only 145 days to go!
