3:00 PM – 4:00 PM – The Black Rock Desert: Our Inspiring Home! – Come learn about the vast Black Rock Desert and what makes it come alive. Dave Cooper, local and former manager of the Black Rock NCA will talk about playa dust, wilderness areas, historic emigrant trails, wildlife, wild horses, & more. Come with questions!

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Geology of the Black Rock Desert – Ever wondered about those amazing land forms around Black Rock City? Come and learn how they were formed and what they’re about. Come and learn about the rocks from Cathy Busby, our expert field geologist from UC Davis.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Getting Deep Into Hot Water – Hot springs ARE living systems. Come hear geologist Glenn Melosh explain how they form, where they occur, and how the earth expresses itself with hot water.
3:00 – 4:00 AM – World’s Largest Fire Blanket – Senior Earth Guardian and Leave No Trace Master Educator Mike Bilbo will discuss the history of burn scars on the playa, Leave No Trace solutions, and Burning Man’s stewardship through large scale solutions known as burn platforms. Learn also what is the latest protocol for building a fire when camping in back country areas. Then off we go via bike tour to see the world’s largest fire blanket. How big is it, what is it made of? We will investigate.
