Earth Guardian Trainings in Black Rock City

As we’re getting closer to the playa, I wanted to remind everyone of our trainings and orientations in BRC! I’ve listed our major trainings below – though remember to come by our front desk and ask questions anytime!

Saturday

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM – LNT Outreach /Compliance Team Training – In 2013, Earth Guardians volunteered to go out with BLM staff with GPS’s and cameras to go out to specific spots in the city, checking for oil drips, grey water spills, black water spills and burn barrel problems. BLM was checking for permit violations and we were along as both LNT advisors and cultural ambassadors.  Now we’re in the lead and continuing this great opportunity to have ‘boots on the ground’ and share LNT love and we’re doing it again this year!  This is a training for our volunteers on the team, and a meal will be provided for the training.

Sunday

10:00 PM – 1:00 PM – Hot Springs Patrol Driver Training & Coordination Meeting – Our annual Sunday get together with all of the Rangers and Earth Guardians making hot spring patrols happen!  We’ll be reviewing driver shifts, protocols and daily coordination/communications before heading out on the playa to do a test drive around this year’s route to each hot spring and set up the volunteer shelters.  Go Drivers!

11:00 – 1:00 PM – Advanced LNT Outreach/Compliance Training – Advanced training for volunteers taking on the Team Lead Position. We’ll review team lead responsibilities, use of the Fulcrum Iphone/Ipad app and do some field testing to practice using the application before Monday’s first shift.

5:00 PM– 6:00 PM – All Hands on Deck Camp Meeting All Earth Guardian campers are requested to attend this meeting to meet each other, go over the camp set up, coverage of camp shifts, and the event schedule for the week.

Tuesday

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Earth Guardian Information Desk Training/Activities Volunteers – Calling all Earth Guardians ready to volunteer to man our information desk where folks can come for information and help run the activities programs. We need YOU at our front line. This is a training session for all volunteers and all EG’s staying at the EG camp on the esplanade are expected to do at least two shifts. Shifts run from 9-noon, noon-3 and 3-6pm each day of the event.
